Supported output formats

Although Grafikhuset Publi PDF is designed especially for automating creation of PDF documents it supports various other output formats – multiple page TIFF among others – provided that GPL Ghostscript 8.63 (or later) is selected as PostScript interpreter.

Without support from GPL Ghostscript 8.63 (or later) Grafikhuset Publi PDF can output only RAW PostScript (in form of spooled data from the print queue) or PDF documents with help from Acrobat Distiller or Jaws PDF Creator.

The below table set out which formats that are available when a certain PostScript interpreter is installed for use with Grafikhuset Publi PDF:

  • 11 different TIFF formats (of which the large part supports multiple page TIFF)
  • 2 different JPEG formats
  • 2 different PSD formats
  • 6 different PNG formats, including full color, transparent PNG format
  • 6 different BMP formats
  • 6 different PCX formats

GPL Ghostscript 8.63 offer more output formats than specified here. Currently the Publi PDF Interface does not implement support for these formats, since they are considered unlikely to raise any particular interest. Grafikhuset would be happy to implement support for any excluded format upon request (for a small fee).

When a Publi PDF queue is set-up to use e.g. Acrobat Distiller as interpreter and the requested output format is set to e.g. TIFF format, an error will occur because Acrobat Distiller cannot produce TIFF formatted output. However, if GPL Ghostscript 8.63 is ALSO available to Publi PDF at the time of conversion, Publi PDF will automatically detect this error and produce the requested TIFF format after all.

Hence, no matter which PostScript-to-PDF interpreter you prefer for your workflow it's always a good idea to have GPL Ghostscript 8.63 installed while running Grafikhuset Publi PDF.
