Ensuring that Chameleon CMYK PDF Creator can find Acrobat Distiller

Issue:

The Configure Chameleon CMYK PDF Creator application fail detect a valid path to Adobe Acrobat Distiller and display the following message:

The message is displayed even though Adobe Acrobat is installed and fully functional.

This error may occur on all Windows platforms.

Solution:

Manually correct an error in the Windows Registry with the Windows Registration Editor (regedit.exe).

Only users that really understand how to edit the registry should perform this operation, because failure may harm the Windows operating system.

Step by step instructions:

Follow these steps to manually correct this error in the Windows Registry:

• Log in with administrative privileges. 
• Run 'regedit.exe'.
• Locate the following key:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
      SOFTWARE
          Microsoft
              Windows
                  CurrentVersion
                      App Paths
                          AcroDist.exe
• Verify that both the (default) and the Path entries are correct. They are very likely NOT correct and may point to the folder C:\Acrobat3 even though Acrobat 3.0 never was installed on your computer. Both entries should point to the most recent version of your Acrobat Distiller executable, for example:
  (default):
      C:\Program files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\AcroDist.exe
  Path:
      C:\Program files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\
      (Important: remember the trailing backslash here).
• Log out and log in again with the same user account that installed Chameleon CMYK PDF Creator.
• Restart the Configure Chameleon CMYK PDF Creator application to verify that the error message it not displayed anymore.

If the paths stored in this AcroDist.exe key are invalid your Chameleon CMYK PDF Creator software will not function, because Distiller can not be configured properly.

Reason:

Some application writes an invalid entry to the Windows System Registry if the here mentioned key doesn't already exist. Currently we don't know which application that does so, but it's certainly not any software released by Grafikhuset.
