Creating Publi PDF queues
A Publi PDF queue is a printer instance that is based on the Publi PDF printer driver. Hence, adding a new Publi PDF printer instance actually also adds a queue that can be watched by a configured and running Publi PDF monitor.
Easy queue installation (recommended)
New Publi PDF printer instances are easily added. Normally you should use the included QueueInstaller application to install new or remove obsolete Publi PDF printer instances. Simply run the QueueInstaller application and follow the instructions.
Manual queue installation
If you for some reason prefer to install the Publi PDF printer instances manually, please follow these instructions:
- Open the Start -> Settings -> Printers and Faxes folder and
double-click the Add Printer applet.
Click Next.
- Select the Local printer option and uncheck the Plug and Play checkbox.
If you can't activate the Local printer option you must have the system administrator perform the installation for you.
Click Next.
- Select the Use port option and select an unused LPT port. LPT3 is a good
choice even though you might not have a physical LPT3 port installed. Use the
same LPT port for all instances
you install.
Click Next.
- Click the Have Disk button. In the displayed dialog click the Browse
button and navigate to the PDF Driver subfolder to the
folder where you installed Publi PDF. This folder is usually:
C:\<Program files>\Grafikhuset\Publi PDF Service\PDF Driver.
Double-click the PubliPDF_4.inf file.
- Click OK.
- Select Publi PDF and click Next.
If the Add Printer Wizard suggests that you keep an existing driver, then do NOT do that unless you know for sure you already have the most recent version installed.
Click Next.
- Set the Publi PDF printer as your default printer as need be.
Click Next.
- Do not define a share for the printer instance unless you install
it on a server.
Click Next.
- Important! You will definitely NOT want a Test Page at this stage.
It will NOT print. Moreover, it will cause Windows to yell about errors and at
the same time leave behind in the queue a print job, which might be hard to
get rid of. Hence, select the
No option.
Click Next.
- Installation will start when you click Finish. Windows will tell you that the driver you are
about to install doesn't have a digital signature from Microsoft. The Publi
PDF
printer installation does not install any unsigned files with executable
content, so you can safely continue the installation.
Therefore, click Continue.
- Important! You may now be prompted that the Add Printer Wizard is about
to install a Danish language version. Do NOT allow that unless you understand
Danish.
- Installation will now be performed.
Important! After installation you have to assure that the Enable Advanced Printing Features is OFF. This switch is usually ON immediately after installing a PostScript printer instance, but having it set to ON most often conflict with the way Publi PDF work. To disable the switch right-click the new printer instance, select Properties -> Advanced and uncheck the Enable Advanced Printing Features switch.
Note: If you fail to disable the Enable Advanced Printing Features switch it's quite likely that your Publi PDF queues cannot produce anything else than .log files describing errors.
